Sing has become so popular that RRDC alumni often come back to watch! The winning team receives the coveted Rolling River Color War Trophy. The week culminates with Color War Sing, where the teams present banners and plaques and face off in a spirited sing down featuring a cheer, march, and alma mater (you can find past Color War plaques still hanging in the Auditorium and Gymnasium). Everyone looks forward to traditional Color War activities like tug-of-war, penny pick-up, bucket brigade, and rope burn. Seeking to connect with the primordial emotions locked in ancient myths, rather than the symbols themselves, they sought a new style that would do away with any suggestion of illustration. Led by enthusiastic staff Head Counselor Generals, Assistant Counselor Lieutenants, and CIT Captains, campers and staff alike show their spirit by dressing in their team color and/or theme for the entire week. Color Field Painting emerged out of the attempts of several artists in the late 1940s to devise a modern, mythic art. After an exciting Color War break, campers and staff break into teams of Blue and White and compete for points in a variety of activities. Also, lay down towels so folks don’t track in the powder if they need to go inside to use the bathroom.

The powder will wash away in the rain, so it doesn’t leave a huge mess. Since 1993, Rolling River has continued the Color War tradition during the 7th week of camp. It’s best to have the event in an open field. The Jungle: The jungle is also a fun theme idea for field day. Standing at attention and facing the flag with their right hand over the heart, they recite: 'I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for. Some organizations even do a combination of the two. It’s exactly what it sounds like: Teams are each assigned a different color and then either compete in field day game challenges (think relay races or dodgeball) or run around hurling the hue (in powder form) at the others. The color can represent almost any idea, like a country’s flag, random colors chosen by the team, or colors peculiar to a particular celebration. The Flag of the United States of America is a symbol of freedom and liberty to which Americans pledge their allegiance. The color-coded competition is always a crowd-pleaser.
